Music video production is suffering big time in this pandemic

Music video

Navjit Buttar, the music video director who has aced the genre, seems to be riding high on a success mantra. The director who has given several hit music videos like the recent 'Tu Bhi Sataya Jayega' featuring Jasmin Bhasin and Aly Goni, Jubin Nautiyal's 'Mein Jis Din Bhula Dun' and 'Bewafa Tera Masoom Chehra' and 'Dil Chahte Ho' featuring Jubin and Mandy Takhar, besides Punjabi videos of songs 'Mein Suneya' with Ammy Virk, 'Allah Ve' with Jassie Gill, among others. Excerpts from a conversation with him.

Q: You have given several hits in collaboration with Jubin Nautiyal. What's the secret mantra?

Working with Jubin has always been an amazing and delightful experience. He is a superb singer, good actor and a great guy. His involvement in the process reflects his hardwork and dedication, and we tune well on every page of shoot. I guess that's the secret.

Q: Where do you derive your inspiration for video theme from? It is fiction or drawn from real life?

It is all fictional but of course you observe things as you see them so thats' why while writing screenplays observations, experience comes into the play and works for me as a director.

Q: Among all your videos so far, which have been closest to your heart?

'Allah Ve' with Jasise Gill, Jubin Nautiyal’s 'Dil Chahte Ho' and Diljit Dosanjh’s 'Pagal' are my favourite because I had a ball shooting them. Of course the songs are from my genre of listening.

Q: Despite the pandemic shutting most of entertainment industry, music videos seem to have continued to be made. Have you suffered as much as the others in the industry?

Yes, certainly we too are sailing in the same boat of losses like others. Music video production is suffering big time in this pandemic. I am hoping the world becomes free from it as soon as possible so that we can go back to work in full swing.
